Tien Phong - The past few days, in the middle of a terrible flood in HCM City, General Director of Quang Trung Industry Group (Ninh Binh) Nguyen Tang Cuong became the “hot” keyword in social media when he made an announcement that his solution is able to help Ho Chi Minh City eliminate flooding, and he would not take money until the city eliminates flooding.

Talking with Tien Phong, Nguyen Tang Cuong said: "Before create the plan to “rescue” flooded Hochiminh, I assigned a team of experienced staffs to investigate the streets for a long time, and collected Hochiminh flood records of Ho Chi Minh City for many years from the authority as well as consulted the scientists about water supply and drainage. Cuong believed climate change, sea level rise and high urbanization rate caused such severe flooding as the water from rains cannot go through cement ground quickly. Besides, the local citizens did not pay enough attention of protecting the water supply and drainage systems with a lot of waste clutter blocking the water flow. In addition, the city had a poor planning of drainage system with small sewer system resulting in frequent clogging of mud, soil, branches, sticks, leaves, paper, rags and the sewers were arranged not in line. The blockage of sewers is so serious that every year HCMC has to spend nearly trillion dongs for drainage work.

From the above analysis, Cuong recommended “just put the centrifugal pump in flooded points. In this case there is no need to digging the road to install new sewers”. He suggested that his enterprise will take the job of preventing the city from flooding with the commitment: "if it’s successful I will receive payment, otherwise my enterprise will bear the cost my self."

According to Cuong, the centrifugal suction pump automatically integrates with the water level sensor, so the operators can just sit in the center room to control the water pump to push water from the low to the high places, and it is directly connected to current drainage system the city. The pump can push water up to 10km without bouncing due to one-way valves.

This system can reduce 60-70% of the cost of dredging and drainage for the city. In addition, the equipment is located at the end of the outlet adjacent to the drain therefore it does not occupy a lot of area of the city and will not affect to general operation of the city. Cuong also revealed that the cost of installing centrifugal pumps is only about 10% compared to the current big flood prevention projects of the city.

"The fuel cost for the pump working through one rain is as less as VND 5 million. This solution of Quang Trung Industrial Group has the lowest investment cost, and being the most economical and able to completely solve the flood in a minimum period of 20 years, "Cuong said.
